Sadly, the Polaris hotel - with all its rich history - has reached its end as an icon of the city of Fairbanks, AK. We are here to answer the simple question? What comes next?

Many believed the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS) was too ambitious, uneconomical, and would never happen. By comparison, the idea of a mixed-use, net-zero urban development project seems to many like a pipedream. Only in Alaska! In other urban areas, developments of this type are thriving and we can, too.

On January 7th, 2023 we brought together two high caliber developers to co-author a letter of interest in potentially funding a $200 million dollar project that would create a high-profile mix of art, innovation, form and function that uses permaculture principles to advance profitable projects for this one site - and potentially beyond.

While the last 10 years  have produced a significant amount of progress, this letter signifies a new phase of development that essentially begins anew, with hope and wonder, what we can build together. The city and local government agencies have been made aware and are considering their response to the requested letters of support, as stated in the correspondence. In the meantime, we are posting this update to members, long-time supporters, and the general population in hopes of building a strong and diverse coalition to make the best of what happens next...
